Background

The long term goal of the Imara Africa program is to develop a network of dedicated young leaders who will influence leadership through direct engagement and indirect participation as social influencers, community organizers, political players and policy designers and implementers. Further the program is expected to sensitize and train 100 ward administrators in 3 (35 wards in Busia County, 30 wards in Kericho County, 35 wards in Kisumu County) counties on effective governance hence creating a group of informed young Kenyans as a mechanism of championing for effective and accountable governance.

The project was informed by our previous interactions in 3 counties, where we observed gaps with youth engagement in decision making processes. Ward administrators and members of county assembly lack knowledge on their roles and responsibilities, although they have good will. The data collected informed the need to capacity building for the ward administrators on policy issues, need for awareness creation on the importance of involving youth in decision making and actual practice.
